Parkrose Native Cyreena Boston Files To Run For House
Portland- Cyreena Boston grew up in Northeast Portland. At age 10, she kicked off her political career with the Portland Organizing Project. Today she formally filed paperwork to run as a Democrat for House District 45 in the 2008 Election.
Recently quoted in the Skanner newspaper Senator Margaret Carter said Boston is "a deserving young woman who will be able to make a difference."
Boston, 27 is the former Constituency Director of the Democratic Party of Oregon. After graduating from Spelman College, Boston returned home where she worked to expand emergency services, and encouraged civic involvement through voter registration programs, particularly in the Sumner neighborhood where she lives.
"I am absolutely thrilled at the outpouring of support I've received from the voters I've met walking door to door, and the people who know what I stand for," said Boston. "I've knocked on over 500 doors already as I work to build and mobilize the votes I need to win in May."
Boston released a list of people endorsing her candidacy, highlighted by Superintendent of Public Instruction Susan Castillo, Labor Commissioner Dan Gardner and State Senators Avel Gordly and Margaret Carter. Also endorsing Boston are State Representative Chip Shields, Commissioner Eric Sten, Commissioner Jeff Cogen and community leaders including Jo Ann Bowman, Tony Hopson, Norm Monroe, Jamie Partridge, Lew Fredrick and Beverly Stein.
Supporter Carl Talton was quoted stating, "Cyreena has been visible and actively engaged for years." Representative Shields also sang her praises, stating that Boston has solid experience, especially through her work with Self-Enhancement Inc. and "she knows how to get things done for working people in Portland."
